Actor Jonathan Taylor Thomas, best known for playing Randy Taylor on Home Improvement, was detained in Westlake Village, California, on September 21, according to TMZ.
The 45-year-old actor was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle stopped by deputies during a driving under the influence (DUI) investigation. Authorities said Thomas was not behind the wheel.
According to law enforcement officials, Thomas exited the vehicle while deputies were conducting the investigation. He was allegedly instructed to return to the vehicle but did not comply.
Authorities said he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of obstruction and being drunk in public. The allegations have not resulted in criminal charges at this stage.
Jail records show Thomas was taken to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station at 12:32 a.m. on September 21 and booked at 1:50 a.m. He was released more than 34 hours later.

The district attorney’s office has not filed charges against Thomas. Prosecutors could still review the case and determine whether charges are appropriate within the applicable legal time limit.
The incident involving Jonathan Taylor Thomas comes years after the actor stepped away from the spotlight. He rose to fame as Randy Taylor on Home Improvement, appearing on the popular sitcom from 1991 to 1998.
Thomas has largely maintained a private life in recent years, with only occasional television appearances following his departure from mainstream Hollywood.
