Japan provides a grant for a new school bus for special students in Karachi
The Government of Japan has approved a Japan Grant worth up to $55,734 (PKR 15.5 million) to help a Karachi-based school purchase a new bus for students with special needs.
The grant falls under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) and will support the Institute of Behavioral Psychology (IBP) School of Special Education in Karachi.
Consul General of Japan in Karachi, HATTORI Masaru, and IBP President Ms. Habiba Habib signed the grant contract at the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The new school bus will allow an additional 30 students to access quality education, vocational training and specialized therapeutic services. It will also provide safe and reliable door-to-door transportation for students facing psychological and physical challenges.
Many of these students currently struggle to attend school because of long and difficult journeys. The new transport service will help remove a major barrier to their education and improve their access to essential support.

The initiative will also give families greater opportunities to pursue employment and other socio-economic activities while their children attend school.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Consul General HATTORI Masaru said he hoped the GGP assistance would generate significant social benefits and contribute to long-term economic development by supporting the IBP School of Special Education.
The Government of Japan said it would continue providing flexible and timely assistance to local NGOs through grant programs focused on improving the social wellbeing of people across Pakistan.
