Karachi: The Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi, in partnership with the Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP), the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association Sindh (PJCA), and the Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF), proudly hosted Japan Fest 2024. This exciting event, which celebrated Japanese culture, traditions, and values, was held at the Arts Council of Pakistan and brought together the Karachi community for a vibrant cultural exchange.

A Cultural Fusion
Japan Fest 2024 featured a wide array of activities, performances, and exhibitions that highlighted Japan’s rich cultural heritage, along with modern influences. The festival provided attendees with an immersive experience into Japanese culture, showcasing everything from traditional games to contemporary art forms.

Remarks from the Consul General
The Consul-General of Japan, Mr. HATTORI Masaru, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized the importance of cultural exchange. In his speech, he noted that events like Japan Fest play a key role in strengthening the friendship between Japan and Pakistan. This year’s theme, “Japan-Pakistan Fusion,” was designed to connect Japanese culture with local traditions, creating a deeper mutual understanding. “Through events like these, we hope to foster closer ties and a stronger sense of familiarity between our two countries,” said Mr. HATTORI.

Mayor of Karachi’s Support
The Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, attended as the chief guest and applauded the efforts of the Japanese Consulate in promoting cultural activities for the people of Karachi. The Mayor offered Frere Hall as the venue for Japan Fest 2025, highlighting the importance of cultural exchanges. He also praised Japan for its contributions to technology and innovation while emphasizing the valuable lessons Pakistan could learn from Japan’s deep-rooted heritage, language, and culture.

Notable attendees included Ms. Sadia Rashid, President of the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association (PJCA), Mr. Murtaza Mandviwalla, Chairman of the Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF), and Mr. Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan.

  • Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging)
  • Bonsai Exhibitions
  • Ju-Jitsu & Kendo Demonstrations
  • Kathak Dance Performance by Ms. Ishii
  • Cosplay Competition
  • Bon-Odori (Traditional Japanese Dance)
  • Sufi-Rock Fusion Concert by Mr. Wajji Ali and the Great Meeraas Band

These captivating performances and exhibitions provided attendees with a unique opportunity to experience the diverse facets of Japanese culture, blending tradition and modern art.
