Ishaq Dar raises Afghanistan-based terrorism at SCO foreign ministers meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said terrorism originating from Afghan territory remains one of Pakistan’s biggest security challenges. He stated that banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) are operating from Afghanistan.

Dar addresses SCO foreign ministers

Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Kyrgyzstan on Friday, Dar said the SCO’s silver jubilee marked an important milestone for the regional organisation.

He also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on successfully hosting the ministerial meeting.

SCO promoting regional cooperation

Dar said the SCO has evolved into a comprehensive platform that promotes cooperation in economic development, culture, regional peace and security.

Furthermore, he said the organisation continues to play a significant role in strengthening peace, stability and cooperation across the region.

The foreign minister added that the “Shanghai Spirit” is founded on mutual trust, shared development and constructive diplomacy.

Pakistan seeks peaceful Afghanistan

Dar reiterated that Pakistan wants to see a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.

However, he stressed that terrorism originating from Afghan territory remains a serious security concern for Pakistan. He said banned TTP and BLA militants continue to operate from Afghanistan, posing threats to regional peace and security.
