Pakistan Navy Admiral Naveed Ashraf Pays Tribute to Martyrs on Navy Day

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf paid tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Navy on Monday during a ceremony at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad to mark Navy Day.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument and offered Fateha for the fallen personnel. Pakistan Navy officers, chief petty officers, sailors, civilian employees and families of the martyrs attended the ceremony. The naval chief also met with the families of the Shuhada.

In his Navy Day message, Admiral Naveed Ashraf paid tribute to the Navy’s martyrs and Ghazis, saying their sacrifices had played an important role in safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and maritime security.

The naval chief said the Navy was continuing to modernise its platforms and adopt evolving operational concepts to meet emerging maritime challenges. He stressed that preparedness and professional excellence remained essential to protecting the country’s maritime interests.

Navy Day is observed on September 8 to commemorate the Pakistan Navy’s role in the 1965 war. The occasion particularly recalls Operation Somnath, in which Pakistan Navy vessels targeted coastal radar installations at Dwarka. The operation remains an important part of the Navy’s operational history.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also paid tribute to Pakistan Navy martyrs and veterans in a message marking Navy Day. He recalled the significance of Operation Dwarka and the operational contribution of submarine PNS Ghazi during the 1965 war.

The Pakistan Navy has also highlighted the wider importance of maritime security, noting that the country’s sea routes are vital to trade, the economy and national security.
