Iran Attacks US Forces in Jordan Targeted Amid Fresh Strait of Hormuz Escalation

Iran launched attacks against US forces in Jordan on Monday, according to reports, hours after the US military struck two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Jordan’s army said its air defence systems intercepted eight missiles early Monday. The missiles entered Jordanian airspace during the attack.

The announcement came shortly after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had targeted US military positions in Jordan.

Fox News reporter Trey Yingst first reported the attack. He cited a US source familiar with the situation.

Yingst later said the strikes caused no significant impact. He added that US forces intercepted almost all the incoming missiles.

US Strikes Iranian Launchers

The Iranian attack followed a US military strike on two rocket launchers on Larak Island, according to a US official cited by Axios.

The official said Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces had prepared the launchers to fire rockets carrying sea mines towards the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards vowed to retaliate after the US operation.

Belgorod Missile Attack Two Killed and 16 Injured in Russian City

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported that the US strike killed and wounded several Iranian fighters and civilians. It did not provide a casualty figure.

A US official told Al Arabiya that American forces were monitoring the area closely.

The official said US forces remained ready to protect commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.

Iranian news agency Fars reported an explosion near Larak Island. It said the cause of the blast remained unknown.

Reuters also reported the explosion but could not independently confirm its cause.

Iran Reports Drone Attack in UAE

Iran’s army also reported a drone attack on the Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates.

Iranian state television cited an army statement for the report.

The Iranian military said the attack targeted areas where US forces and helicopters were stationed.

Iran said the operation came in response to the deaths of Revolutionary Guard members and Iranian civilians on Larak Island.

Strait of Hormuz Tensions

The latest attacks have increased tensions between Washington and Tehran around the Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway carries a major share of the world’s oil shipments. Any disruption could affect global energy markets and international trade.

US President Donald Trump said last week that mines in international waters around the strait had either been removed or detonated.

Trump also warned Iran against placing new mines in the waterway.

The United States has repeatedly warned Tehran against mining international waters. Iran has continued to assert its right to control shipping through the strait.

Wider Regional Conflict

The latest confrontation comes as the wider conflict between the United States and Iran enters its sixth month.

Washington has also threatened sanctions against countries that support Tehran.

The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28. Iran later launched strikes against Israel and Gulf states that host US military bases.

The latest exchange marks another escalation between Washington and Tehran.

It also raises fresh concerns about the security of the Strait of Hormuz and stability across the wider Middle East.
