Malaysia Day Karachi ceremony marks Malaysia’s 69th National Day

Malaysia Day was marked in Karachi with a flag-raising ceremony hosted by the Consulate General of Malaysia to celebrate the country’s 69th National Day.

The ceremony brought together Malaysian students, families, professionals, business community members, consulate officials and distinguished Pakistani guests.

Consul General of Malaysia in Karachi, His Excellency Mohd Yunus Ibrahim, welcomed the Malaysian community and Pakistani friends. He said the occasion held special significance as his first National Day programme with the Malaysian community in Karachi since taking office.

He highlighted the importance of a “jiwa yang merdeka”, or a free and independent spirit. He said Malaysians living abroad represent their country through their conduct, values and interactions with local communities.

The consul general stressed that patriotism extends beyond National Day. He said Malaysians can demonstrate it by respecting local laws, helping others, building friendships and protecting Malaysia’s good name.

He also urged Malaysian students, professionals and businesspeople in Pakistan to strengthen people-to-people ties. He encouraged them to contribute to closer Malaysia-Pakistan relations through education, professional networks, cultural exchanges and cooperation.

Unity and responsibility

Mohd Yunus Ibrahim said independence represents both a right and a responsibility, describing it as an “amanah” entrusted by previous generations to the next.

Calling for unity under the spirit of “Rapatkan saf, teguhkan muafakat, satukan tenaga dan ikhtiar”, he encouraged Malaysians abroad to stand together and support one another.

He said Malaysia’s diversity should become a source of strength. He also emphasised the importance of collective efforts to deepen ties between Malaysia and Pakistan.

The flag-raising ceremony provided an opportunity for the Malaysian community in Karachi to celebrate their national identity while reaffirming their commitment to stronger relations with Pakistan.
