Beijing: In a major step towards bolstering economic cooperation, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah led a high-level delegation to Beijing to meet with top executives of Chinese companies. The discussions centered on key infrastructure and energy projects, aiming to enhance bilateral partnerships between Pakistan and China.
The delegation included Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi.
Key Projects Discussed:
- Karachi Circular Railway (KCR): A major focus was on the modernization of Karachi’s urban transport system, with efforts to revive the KCR project that has been pending Chinese approval since 2016. Chief Minister Shah emphasized that the KCR, which serves as a feeder for the BRTs, would significantly benefit the city once operational.
- Thar Coal Energy Projects: CM Shah invited Chinese companies to invest in developing Thar Coal resources, exploring projects in electricity, coal-to-gas, coal-to-diesel, and coal-to-urea production.
- Sustainable Transportation: The delegation discussed the introduction of electric buses and taxis to promote greener public transportation in Sindh.
- Infrastructure and Industrial Growth: Broader discussions covered potential investments in Sindh’s infrastructure and industrial sectors, with participation from prominent Chinese companies like Norinco, Beiben Trucks, China North Vehicle Company, and Jiangsu Trade Electro-Mechanical.

CM Shah expressed confidence in the potential of these collaborations, stating that these projects would not only drive Sindh’s progress but contribute significantly to Pakistan’s national development. He highlighted the role of Chinese technology in accelerating Sindh’s infrastructure development and creating job opportunities.
