ISLAMABAD: Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko departed Pakistan on Wednesday, concluding a three-day visit that marked significant advancements in Pakistan-Belarus relations.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
During his visit, President Lukashenko and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed 15 agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), including a landmark Roadmap for Comprehensive Cooperation (2025-2027). This roadmap aims to enhance economic ties through high-level meetings, intergovernmental commissions, and collaborative initiatives.
The two leaders emphasized expanding trade, economic collaboration, and regional connectivity. Key sectors identified for joint ventures include agricultural machinery, heavy industry, and information technology.
Key Agreements and MoUs
The agreements covered diverse areas such as:
- E-commerce and Technology: Enhancing cooperation in accreditation, auditing, and scientific projects.
- Trade Facilitation: Measures to address regulatory challenges and improve bilateral trade in health, textiles, and halal products.
- Environmental and Climate Change Collaboration: Joint efforts in disaster management and vocational education.
- Transportation and Logistics: Developing optimal maritime and land trade routes.
Business Forum Sparks Opportunities
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) hosted a Belarus-Pakistan Business Forum. Over 30 Belarusian companies and 100 Pakistani businesses participated, exploring avenues for trade and investment.
Aiming for Economic Growth
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s economic revival strategy, focused on export-oriented growth and attracting investments. President Lukashenko offered Belarusian expertise in technology and expressed interest in connectivity projects like the North-South Corridor.
Joint Efforts in Education and Culture
Both nations committed to boosting cultural exchanges and academic collaboration, including student exchange programs and joint research initiatives.

Discussions extended to regional issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir situation and the Middle East conflict. Both sides called for peaceful resolution of international disputes under UN charters.
Future Prospects
Both leaders agreed to reconvene in Minsk next month to finalize practical steps and sign additional agreements. A likely visit by PM Shehbaz Sharif to Belarus in 2025 is expected to further cement these ties.
This visit not only celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations but also underscored the growing partnership between Pakistan and Belarus, paving the way for stronger economic and political collaboration.
