Islamabad: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has issued a stern warning to India, vowing a strong and decisive response to what he described as “proxy warfare” launched by New Delhi following its military setback in May.

Chairing the 71st Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the Army Chief emphasized that any attempt to destabilize Pakistan through indirect means would be countered with full force. He reaffirmed the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security.

Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors escalated earlier this year after India blamed Pakistan for a deadly attack in Pahalgam. The situation reached a peak in May when Indian jets launched airstrikes on Pakistani territory, leading to civilian casualties and a week-long missile exchange before a U.S.-brokered ceasefire calmed hostilities.

During the conference, Pakistan’s top military leadership paid tribute to the martyrs of recent attacks, attributing the violence to “Indian-sponsored proxies.” The commanders vowed that the sacrifices of the fallen would not be in vain.

Rejecting recent Indian claims that China supported Pakistan during the conflict, Field Marshal Munir criticized New Delhi for trying to internationalize a bilateral issue to cover its own strategic failures.

“India’s invocation of third parties reflects its desire to manipulate regional dynamics while advancing an extremist Hindutva-driven agenda,” the ISPR quoted the COAS as saying.

The forum also reviewed internal and external security challenges, including rising tensions in the Middle East and Iran. It stressed the importance of building indigenous defense capabilities and promoting national unity to counter emerging global threats.

Field Marshal Munir praised the Pakistan Navy and Air Force for enhancing inter-service coordination and highlighted recent diplomatic engagements with key partners including the U.S., Iran, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. He termed his recent visit to Washington “historic,” noting it allowed Pakistan to directly present its stance on global security matters to U.S. leadership.

Concluding the session, the Army Chief expressed full confidence in the operational preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces and reiterated their readiness to respond to all forms of aggression and terrorism.
