Indonesia marked its 81st Independence Day in Karachi with a blood donation drive organised by the Consulate General of Indonesia in collaboration with the Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF).
The humanitarian activity took place on Saturday, August 15, at the AMTF Center in Karachi. Indonesian diplomats, consulate staff, students and members of the Indonesian community joined the initiative.
Participants voluntarily donated blood to support children receiving treatment for thalassemia. The annual activity has become a symbol of humanitarian cooperation between Indonesia and Pakistan.

Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi, Mudzakir, thanked AMTF for its continued efforts to provide treatment and care for children living with thalassemia.

He said the annual blood drive has developed into a meaningful tradition between the Indonesian Consulate, the Indonesian community and AMTF.
Mudzakir also highlighted the wider significance of the initiative. He said Indonesia’s Independence Day should inspire people to share, care and contribute to their communities.
The Consul General said the blood drive reflected Indonesia’s spirit of solidarity and friendship with the people of Pakistan.
AMTF highlights importance of blood donations
Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation Founder and CEO Asim Qidwai appreciated the Indonesian Consulate and community for their continued support.
He stressed the importance of voluntary blood donations for children with thalassemia. Many patients require regular blood transfusions as part of their treatment.
Qidwai also welcomed the continued partnership with the Indonesian Consulate. He said such cooperation helps promote public awareness about voluntary blood donation.
The event concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to the humanitarian partnership. They also encouraged greater public participation in voluntary blood donation.
The Indonesian Consulate said initiatives like the annual blood drive strengthen people-to-people connections between Indonesia and Pakistan. They also support humanitarian cooperation as an important part of the longstanding bilateral friendship.
