Karachi: Ziauddin University’s IEEE Student Branch organized a successful one-day event titled “IEEE R10 Young Professionals UpSkill 2024.” This event, held at Ziauddin University’s Education City Campus, was in collaboration with the IEEE Young Professionals Karachi Section and supported by IEEE Region-10 Young Professionals.

Addressing Industry 4.0 and 5.0 Challenges

The primary goal of the event was to equip young professionals with essential skills to tackle challenges posed by Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0. Renowned experts from academia shared insights on optimizing manufacturing through cloud-based data exchange and AI-driven solutions relevant to Industry 4.0. They also emphasized the importance of human-centric collaboration between people and machines in the context of Industry 5.0.

The Role of Biomedical Engineering

Experts discussed the increasing relevance of biomedical engineering in both industries. They highlighted how AI-driven innovations are enhancing medical technologies. A collective agreement emerged on the necessity of interdisciplinary collaboration among engineers, medical professionals, and AI specialists to drive groundbreaking advancements in the biomedical field.

The event featured notable speakers, including:

  • Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif, Dean of Sir Syed University
  • Prof. Dr. Zeeshan Ul Haque, Dean of Salim Habib University
  • Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadir, Chairman of the Biomedical Department at MUET Jamshoro
  • Prof. Dr. Ahsan Naeem, Professor at UET Lahore

Insights from the Vice-Chancellor

As the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Inayatullah Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Ziauddin University, addressed the attendees. He emphasized the transformative impact of AI tools, such as ChatGPT, on modern education. “Our students are not only embracing AI but are actively using it to enhance their learning experiences,” he remarked. He further noted that AI empowers students in self-evaluation, fostering critical thinking and creativity.

Emphasizing Professional Development

Engr. Dr. Fahad Azim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Science, Technology, & Management, stressed the importance of cutting-edge technologies for professionals in electrical, biomedical, and civil engineering. He elaborated on IEEE’s Region 10 initiatives that provide resources for professional development, including seminars, workshops, and short courses.

“Volunteering is key for young professionals,” Dr. Azim stated, “as it offers valuable networking opportunities and career development, even for those with limited experience.” He introduced the IEEE Volunteering Platform to encourage participants to engage in roles that provide hands-on experience.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Saad Jawaid Khan, Principal of the College of Engineering and Technology at Ziauddin University. He led discussions on the significance of biomedical engineering and Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies.

The event concluded with reflections on how AI tools like ChatGPT are reshaping education. Marking IEEE’s ongoing commitment to empowering young professionals, the event catered to a diverse audience and highlighted the critical role of advanced technologies in shaping the future.
