Karachi: In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital operator, organized a beach cleanup at Clifton Beach, Karachi, on World Cleanup Day. This initiative supports Jazz’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, aiming to raise awareness about marine pollution and encourage the protection of marine ecosystems. Employees actively participated to promote a cleaner environment.
This year’s World Cleanup Day, themed “Make Room For Life,” emphasizes the urgent need to address global waste and marine debris. With 80% of ocean pollution originating from land-based sources, over 10 million metric tons of plastic enter the oceans each year. This pollution threatens marine life, disrupts ecosystems, and introduces harmful microplastics into the food chain.
Syed Fakhar Ahmed, Jazz’s Chief Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Officer, stated, “Jazz’s commitment to environmental sustainability drives us to actively combat marine pollution. By raising awareness about the impact of solid waste on ecosystems, we aim to foster environmental stewardship and protect the planet for future generations. Every step towards a cleaner environment contributes to a better future for all.”
Jazz is dedicated to reducing its environmental footprint through its Net Zero program, which aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Over the past two years, the company has diverted 77 tons of waste from landfills, promoted recycling, and composted food waste into organic fertilizers. Additionally, Jazz has organized tree plantation drives in Peshawar and Islamabad as part of its Carbon Sink project, further reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
