Karachi: Sanaa Zulfikar Causer, Director of External Relations at Hisaar Foundation, proudly represented both Pakistan and the organization at the United Nations Water Conference 2026 Preparatory Meeting, held at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Pakistan’s Voice in Global Water Governance

In a rare and impactful moment, Causer delivered a formal statement on the UN floor — one of the few non-governmental voices from Pakistan to help shape the global water agenda.

During her speech, she urged world leaders to prioritize urgent and inclusive water action. She highlighted five key areas:

  • Community-led water justice
  • Local and accessible financing for grassroots resilience
  • Embedding gender justice in water systems
  • Nature-based climate resilience grounded in local solutions
  • Global cooperation on the Indus River system, which supports over 250 million people

“Water is not just a resource — it is a lifeline,” she emphasized, calling for equity, justice, and indigenous leadership in water governance.

Hisaar Foundation’s Longstanding Vision Aligned with Global Goals

Simi Kamal, Founder and Chairperson of Hisaar Foundation, noted the alignment between the UN’s evolving focus and the foundation’s two-decade mission.

“The UN is now championing causes Hisaar has stood for — gender justice, climate resilience, and community leadership,” Kamal said. “This moment validates our early efforts and proves Pakistan has a credible voice in shaping global water solutions.”
