Heavy rain batters Lahore, Karachi as nationwide death toll rises to 81

Heavy rainfall continued to lash several parts of Pakistan overnight, flooding low-lying areas in Lahore and disrupting electricity supply in Karachi as monsoon-related incidents claimed more lives across the country.

Lahore faces flooding after overnight rain

Lahore received intermittent heavy rainfall throughout the night, leaving several low-lying neighbourhoods inundated.

As a result, water accumulated on roads in multiple areas, causing traffic disruptions and difficulties for commuters.

Karachi experiences rain and power outages

Meanwhile, several parts of Karachi also received light to moderate rainfall.

Rain fell in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Saddar, Mahmoodabad, Nazimabad, Lyari, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gadap, Guru Mandir, Jamshed Road, Baldia, Naval Colony and Mowach Goth.

Following the downpour, more than 100 K-Electric feeders reportedly tripped, leaving many neighbourhoods without electricity.

Rain-related casualties increase

According to official figures, nine people died and 54 others were injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan during the past 24 hours.

Furthermore, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said 81 people have died and 241 have suffered injuries in rain-related incidents between June 26 and July 23.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as monsoon rains continue in several parts of the country.
