Monsoon Preparedness: Sindh Government Orders High Alert Ahead of Expected Heavy Rains

KARACHI, July 24, 2026: Monsoon Preparedness efforts have been stepped up across Sindh after Senior Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah directed all local government institutions to remain on high alert ahead of the forecast of heavy monsoon rainfall.

The minister chaired a meeting with Secretary Local Government Waseem Shamshad to review drainage arrangements, emergency response plans and the operational readiness of local authorities across the province.

During the meeting, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah instructed all Municipal Corporations, Municipal Committees, Town Municipal Corporations and other local government bodies to complete precautionary measures before the onset of heavy rain.

He also ordered the immediate cancellation of leave for officers and staff of all local government institutions, directing them to remain at their duty stations to ensure a swift response to any emergency.

The minister instructed authorities to closely monitor low-lying areas, major roads, underpasses, storm-water drains and other locations vulnerable to water accumulation during rainfall.

He directed officials to keep all dewatering pumps, suction machines, heavy machinery, generators and other emergency equipment fully operational and positioned at designated sites to ensure uninterrupted drainage operations throughout the monsoon.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also ordered the immediate completion of desilting and cleaning of storm-water drains, sewerage lines and drainage networks. He warned that negligence or delays in carrying out these responsibilities would not be tolerated.

The meeting stressed the need for close coordination between local government institutions, deputy commissioners and other relevant departments to ensure an effective and timely emergency response.

Officials were also instructed to keep complaint cells and control rooms operational around the clock, while field teams were directed to remain on high alert throughout the monsoon season.

The minister said the Sindh Government is mobilising all available resources to protect lives and property while ensuring uninterrupted municipal services during the rainy season.

He urged all concerned authorities to perform their duties with professionalism and efficiency to minimise disruption to the public as monsoon rains approach.

The meeting also reviewed the weather outlook for the coming days and directed all departments to complete preparedness measures without delay.
