CARDIFF: Tickets for Tyson Fury’s long-awaited heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium sold out within an hour of going on sale Friday, according to British media reports.
Organisers released around 80,000 tickets at midday, with prices ranging from £88.50 to £13,128, including booking fees, the BBC reported.
More than 500,000 fans were reportedly waiting in the online queue within minutes of sales opening, underlining the enormous demand for the all-British contest.
Fury and Joshua Set for December Showdown
Fury and Joshua are scheduled to headline the December 11 fight card at Principality Stadium. Their ring walks are expected at around 1am on December 12, according to reports.
An application submitted to Cardiff City Council indicated that the stadium would remain open until 3:30am that day.
The bout, announced last month, has been billed as one of the biggest events in British boxing history. It will bring together the two former world heavyweight champions for the first time after years of speculation about a possible meeting.
Netflix to Broadcast Heavyweight Clash
The fight will be broadcast on Netflix, giving the contest an international audience beyond those attending in Cardiff.
Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh had initially hoped to stage the event at Madison Square Garden in New York before Cardiff was selected as the venue.
The sell-out reflects the sustained public interest in a matchup that boxing fans have discussed for years. With tickets gone within an hour, the December event is shaping up to be a major occasion for British boxing.
