FIFA has announced the release of a new football video game, FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, which will debut on Netflix Games on June 11, coinciding with the opening day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The game will be available exclusively to Netflix subscribers at no additional cost, marking a significant step in FIFA’s evolving digital and gaming strategy aimed at increasing fan engagement worldwide.
New Gaming Experience for World Cup Fans
Developed in collaboration with Netflix Games and Delphi Interactive, the title is designed as an accessible football simulation that allows players to experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup.
Gamers will be able to select from all 48 national teams participating in the 2026 tournament and compete across the competition’s 16 official stadiums. The game features more than 1,200 players, providing a comprehensive World Cup experience.
Smartphone-Based Gameplay
One of the game’s standout features is its innovative control system. Players can use their smartphones as controllers and connect to a television by scanning a QR code, creating a simple and interactive gaming experience.
FIFA said the game supports multiplayer functionality, allowing up to four users to play together.
Part of FIFA’s New Gaming Strategy
The launch reflects FIFA’s broader shift in gaming following the conclusion of its long-standing partnership with EA Sports. The organization is now pursuing a multi-partner approach designed to expand its presence across different platforms and reach new audiences.
According to FIFA, FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition is intended to be the foundation of a long-term gaming project. Additional features, content updates, and expanded platform support are expected to be introduced after the initial release.
