Dubai: Dubai has once again claimed the title of the world’s cleanest city, according to the latest Global Power City Index (GPCI) report from the Institute for Urban Strategies at Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Dubai has secured the top spot globally for city cleanliness, solidifying its status as a model of sustainable urban development.

The achievement highlights Dubai’s unwavering commitment to setting international benchmarks for urban living and environmental excellence. Outshining more than 47 cities worldwide, Dubai received 100% satisfaction in the city cleanliness metric, part of the environment pillar in the GPCI—one of the key criteria for evaluating global city strength.

This recognition reflects the efforts of Dubai Municipality, which collaborates with both public and private sector partners to implement integrated strategies that promote sustainability. These initiatives align with the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which aims for an 18% reduction in waste production and the 100% diversion of waste from landfills by 2041.

His Excellency Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, expressed that this consistent leadership is driven by Dubai’s vision to be the world’s best city to live and work. He highlighted the role of teamwork, dedication, and commitment to excellence in achieving global benchmarks for future cities.

Dubai Municipality’s Cleanliness Efforts

Dubai Municipality’s cleanliness teams, consisting of over 3,200 professionals, ensure the city maintains its impeccable standards. Their efforts, supported by a fleet of 855 vehicles, machinery, and equipment, are a testament to Dubai’s focus on innovation and sustainability. The municipality oversees comprehensive daily cleaning programs across 2,400 kilometers of main roads, 1,419 square kilometers of investment zones, and 33.4 kilometers of water canals, in addition to handling hazardous and medical waste.

The city also embraces cutting-edge technologies, such as smart systems for waste collection and electric vehicles for public cleaning operations, further cementing its position as a sustainable global leader.

Vision for a Sustainable Future

Guided by its vision, “A Pioneering Municipality for a Global City,” Dubai Municipality remains committed to enhancing quality of life, promoting sustainability, and ensuring a clean, green environment for all its residents. This vision aligns with Dubai’s aim to be the world’s most sustainable city, enhancing the well-being and happiness of its people.
