Karachi: The Dawood Global Foundation (DGF), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Pakistan, has successfully wrapped up an innovative Green Skill Training Programme in Sindh. Over the course of a month, the programme equipped 1,200 youth—600 men and 600 women aged 18-35—from Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Dadu, and Larkana with essential green skills.

Participants received hands-on training in beekeeping, water harvesting, fuel-efficient cooking, fruit and vegetable dehydration, kitchen gardening, and e-commerce. These skills are designed to promote environmental conservation while fostering self-employment and socioeconomic empowerment, particularly for young women in rural communities.

Transformative Impact on Lives

Ayesha Khan Bhatti from Larkana highlighted how e-commerce training changed her life.
“After completing the training, I registered on platforms like Fiverr and Upwork and secured two freelance projects. This added PKR 15,000 to my family’s income. For the first time, I feel confident supporting my education and easing household expenses. This skill empowers girls like me to take charge of our future,” she shared.

Similarly, Aakash from Mirpurkhas benefitted from organic farming techniques.
“Adopting organic farming has improved our vegetable yield by 20%, reducing our dependence on costly fertilizers. We save 10 labour hours weekly, and our monthly earnings have increased by PKR 10,000. This training gave me the confidence to support my family’s livelihood,” he said.

Faizan Noor from Tando Allahyar also shared his experience.
“Fuel-efficient cooking and water harvesting training reduced our firewood use by 30%, saving money and preserving forests. I’m inspired to teach others in my community these practices for a greener future,” he added.

Training in Sindhi and Distribution of Solar Stoves

To ensure cultural relevance and effective learning, 80% of the training sessions were conducted in Sindhi, led by local trainers. As part of the programme, DGF provided solar stoves to 200 participants certified in fuel-efficient cooking. Trainers across the four districts also received solar stoves in recognition of their contributions.

“We are honored to train local youth in their language with skills that enhance their livelihoods. It’s inspiring to see their excitement as they explore new opportunities,” said Tara Uzra Dawood, CEO of Dawood Global Foundation.

Advancing Sustainable Development

This groundbreaking initiative underscores the importance of green skills in fostering sustainable development and empowering Pakistan’s youth. By equipping young individuals with the tools to create sustainable livelihoods, DGF and UNDP are driving Sindh’s progress toward economic growth and environmental resilience.

The programme not only contributes to regional development but also supports Pakistan’s journey toward a net-zero future, paving the way for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.
