China’s 75th National Day Celebrated with Diplomatic Reception in Karachi

Karachi: The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China hosted a special reception on September 27, 2024, to celebrate China’s 75th National Day. The event was held at the Chinese Consulate in Karachi and featured Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah, as well as consuls general and dignitaries from various countries.

Strengthening Pakistan-China Ties

In his address, Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and China. He emphasized that the two nations have enjoyed 73 years of strong diplomatic relations, marked by mutual respect and support. Yang referred to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a key pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and noted that both nations are working towards an “upgraded version” of CPEC.

CPEC: A Pathway to Growth

Yang stressed the importance of continuing to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries. He said China is committed to upgrading Pakistan’s infrastructure, including the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway. Additionally, China will encourage investment in Pakistan’s automobile manufacturing, new energy sectors, textiles, minerals, and fisheries, further solidifying the foundation for Pakistan’s sustainable development.

Focus on Cultural and Educational Exchanges

Yang also emphasized the significance of enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He stated that China aims to foster cooperation in education, sports, media, and think tanks. Post-flood reconstruction projects for schools in Sindh were also discussed, demonstrating China’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development initiatives.

Combatting Terrorism and Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

The Consul General reiterated China’s firm support for Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. He expressed gratitude to the people of Sindh and Balochistan for their unwavering support for China-Pakistan relations. Yang also highlighted China’s rapid economic growth, noting that the IMF had raised its growth forecast for China to 5%, and its GDP for the first half of 2024 reached 61.7 trillion Yuan.

Sindh CM Praises China’s Achievements

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also addressed the gathering, lauding China’s impressive journey over the past 75 years. He highlighted China’s rapid economic growth, technological advancements, and societal progress. Shah extended heartfelt congratulations to the Chinese government and its people on their milestone anniversary.

Shah recalled the historical significance of Pakistan-China relations, which date back to the era of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Chairman Mao Zedong. He acknowledged the efforts of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari in further strengthening ties with China.

Looking Ahead to Further Cooperation

Chief Minister Shah noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China had revitalized bilateral relations, resulting in the signing of multiple agreements. He announced that President Asif Ali Zardari is set to visit China in November, further enhancing collaboration between the two countries.

Shah also emphasized the importance of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, which Pakistan will host in Islamabad this October. The event is expected to provide an opportunity for high-level talks between Pakistan and China.
