Karachi: The Businessmen Panel (BMP) criticized the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) leadership for failing to address the needs of Pakistan’s business community during a gathering in Karachi.
BMP Chairman Highlights Poor Performance
Mian Anjum Nisar, Chairman of BMP and former FPCCI President, lamented the abandonment of high-impact projects initiated during BMP’s tenure. He noted that the Policy Advisory Board, which received international recognition and appreciation from the Ministry of Commerce, has been rendered ineffective.
He emphasized the delay in critical projects, including a 14-story FPCCI tower in Karachi, which remains stalled despite government approval secured by BMP. Similarly, an office project in KPK, also approved and funded under BMP’s leadership, has seen no progress.
Accusations of Corruption and Mismanagement
Former Governor Senator Ghulam Ali accused the current FPCCI leadership of gaining control through electoral misconduct, including vote-buying and undue influence by a former commerce minister. He condemned the president for banning access to the Islamabad office and alleged misconduct within FPCCI.
Impact on Business Community
Senior Vice Chairman BMP, Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo, criticized the lack of action on critical business community issues. He noted the dormancy of international business forums and councils, which were revitalized during BMP’s tenure. Maggo also highlighted complaints about the current president’s absence and the misuse of FPCCI as a hub for corruption.
Resilience and Unity of BMP
The BMP leadership shared their determination to defeat the United Business Group (UBG) in upcoming FPCCI elections. According to Nisar, UBG’s recent defeat in Lahore Chamber elections is proof of BMP’s strong voter support.
Former FPCCI President Zakaria Usman outlined BMP’s achievements, including impactful budget proposals and representation on government bodies. He expressed disappointment over FPCCI’s current incompetence and the resulting disregard by ministries.

The event was attended by notable business figures, including Amjad Rafi, Raheem Janoo, Haji Ghani Usman, Hanif Lakhany, and Shariq Vohra, who shared their views on restoring FPCCI’s credibility.
