Karachi: The 24th edition of ITCN Asia, South Asia’s largest IT and telecom exhibition, successfully concluded today in Karachi. The three-day event, held at the Karachi Expo Center from August 27-29, showcased industry leaders, tech innovators, and international delegates. As a result, major partnerships and agreements were forged, poised to transform Pakistan’s digital landscape.

Key Highlights and Agreements

This year’s ITCN Asia featured over 500 exhibitors from 30 countries. Furthermore, the event attracted more than 40,000 visitors, including IT professionals, entrepreneurs, and students. They explored the latest advancements in AI, cybersecurity, fintech, cloud computing, and more.

Several significant agreements were signed during the event:

  1. Huawei-Pakistan Partnership: Huawei and the Government of Pakistan announced a major collaboration. Specifically, they will develop 5G networks, cloud services, and smart city solutions. Consequently, this partnership aims to position Pakistan as a digital leader in the region.
  2. PTCL and Ericsson MoU: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Ericsson signed a Memorandum of Understanding. In particular, they will work together to upgrade Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure to support 5G and improve connectivity.
  3. NADRA and Oracle Collaboration: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) partnered with Oracle. As a result, they will enhance data management systems with advanced analytics and AI, thereby improving public services.
  4. Microsoft and Sindh Government Initiative: Microsoft Pakistan and the Sindh Government launched “Sindh Digital Schools.” This initiative integrates AI and cloud computing into schools, providing students with modern learning tools.
  5. Telenor and Zong Renewable Energy Agreement: Telenor Pakistan and Zong will invest in renewable energy projects. Hence, they plan to power telecom towers with solar energy, reducing carbon footprints and operational costs.

Visit by the Consul General of the Emirates

Moreover, His Excellency Mr. Bakheet Ateeq Al-Remeithi, the Consul General of the Emirates in Karachi, visited ITCN Asia 2024. During his visit, he toured various stalls and engaged with exhibitors. His presence highlighted the strong ties between Pakistan and the UAE, particularly in technological collaboration.

International Delegates and Keynote Speakers

ITCN Asia 2024 hosted an impressive lineup of international delegates. Notably, the attendees included:

  • Mr. Ken Hu, Deputy Chairman of Huawei, who spoke on the future of 5G.
  • Ms. Peggy Johnson, CEO of Magic Leap, who discussed AR in education and healthcare.
  • Dr. James Manyika, Senior VP at Google, who talked about the ethics of AI development.
  • Mr. Jason Oxman, President of ITI, who highlighted international collaboration in tech standards.

In addition, the event featured panel discussions, workshops, and product launches, which provided valuable networking opportunities.

Innovative Startups and Product Launches

This year’s exhibition also highlighted innovative startups from Pakistan and abroad. Key startups included:

  • Quika Technologies: A Karachi-based startup offering low-cost satellite internet solutions for rural areas.
  • Safepay: A fintech startup with a new secure payment gateway designed for e-commerce.
  • Agritech Solutions: A Lahore-based company that launched a drone-based precision farming system.

Conclusion and Future Prospects

In conclusion, ITCN Asia 2024 demonstrated its role as a catalyst for technological advancement. The agreements and partnerships formed are expected to boost Pakistan’s digital economy. As a result, organizers are already planning for ITCN Asia 2025, aiming for an even larger event with further innovations.
