Karachi: Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), inaugurated Alfa Mall, a pioneering digital trading platform designed to transform Pakistan’s fashion industry. The platform aims to connect traditional artisans with modern markets, providing new opportunities for economic growth.

Preserving Pakistan’s Cultural Heritage

In her keynote speech, Senator Khalid emphasized the importance of preserving Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. She highlighted how BISP’s Hunarmand beneficiaries, including artisans and craftswomen, can access new economic opportunities through platforms like Alfa Mall.

“Hunarmand arts and crafts are a testament to Pakistan’s cultural history. Therefore, we must revive and promote these treasures in the modern fashion world. In doing so, we empower underprivileged artisans and BISP beneficiaries,” she said.

Encouraging Local Brands to Support Traditional Crafts

Senator Khalid also encouraged Pakistani fashion brands to incorporate traditional arts into their designs. She stressed that this would benefit both the craftswomen and the broader community by creating a connection between the past and the future of fashion.

Success Stories of Hunarmand Women

The event brought together key figures from the fashion world, government officials, and marketing professionals. Organizers shared inspiring success stories of Hunarmand women from rural Sindh, such as Saima and Nosaba, who have used their skills to support their families through traditional crafts.

Alfa Mall: Bridging Digital and Physical Commerce

Alfa Mall’s “Buy Now, Pay Later” concept bridges the gap between digital and physical commerce. This innovative platform provides Hunarmand women with the opportunity to display and sell their products to a wider audience, connecting them to the modern economy.

The partnership between BISP and Alfa Mall will enable more artisans from across Pakistan to expand their market reach, creating economic opportunities and uplifting communities.

A Step Towards Financial Empowerment

This collaboration marks a significant step towards empowering BISP beneficiaries, particularly Hunarmand women. By providing tools to succeed in the modern economy, this partnership will help break the cycle of poverty and enable women to thrive.

Showcasing Traditional Crafts

The event also featured stalls displaying products made by BISP beneficiaries, providing an opportunity to showcase the incredible talents and traditional crafts of Pakistan. These products serve as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage that continues to thrive through the skill and dedication of local artisans.
