Apple has released watchOS 27.0.1 for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 after users reported that some devices were restarting without warning.
The update targets a software bug that could cause affected watches to reboot during activities such as phone calls, Siri interactions, watch-face changes and workout recording.
Apple acknowledged the issue in its release notes and recommended that users install the latest software.
Reports indicate that the problem was linked to a timeout involving the Apple Watch’s Neural Engine. A command expected to finish within a 2,000-millisecond limit reportedly exceeded the threshold by about 20 milliseconds, triggering a system restart.
The update addresses the underlying software problem and is designed to prevent these unexpected reboots.
Unexpected restarts can disrupt several Apple Watch functions. Users rely on the device for alarms, timers, notifications and workout tracking. Supported models also offer features such as heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen measurements and fall detection.
A restart during a workout could interrupt activity tracking or other functions. However, reports suggest that not every Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4 has been affected.

Apple Watch owners using either model are advised to check for the update, even if they have not experienced restart problems.
To update through a paired iPhone, users should open the Watch app, tap My Watch, then select General > Software Update. They can download and install the available update from there.
Apple recommends connecting the watch to Wi-Fi and ensuring it has at least 50% battery charge. Users should also keep the watch on its charger throughout the installation.
The update can also be installed directly on the watch by opening Settings > General > Software Update and selecting Download and Install.
