Karachi: Renowned comedian, writer, and intellectual Anwar Maqsood emphasized the critical role of education in shaping a better society during a fundraising ceremony for Al-Furqan Schools. The event was hosted at the residence of prominent businessman Zahid Hameed, where Maqsood served as the chief guest.
In his address, Maqsood underscored the importance of institutions like Al-Furqan Organization in producing educated individuals capable of driving positive change. “The least amount of money has been allocated to education in all past budgets,” he remarked. He expressed a strong commitment to supporting educational initiatives, noting that even without an invitation, he would have attended the event.
Maqsood further stressed the urgent need for adult education alongside children’s education to foster societal transformation. He humorously attributed the recent surge in the stock exchange to Imran Khan’s time in jail, suggesting it would not have risen as high otherwise.

Al-Furqan Schools’ Achievements Lauded
Senior actor Behrooz Sabzwari also addressed the gathering, praising Maqsood as a national asset and expressing gratitude for his long-standing contributions. “Al-Furqan Organization is a ray of light in the darkness,” said Sabzwari, highlighting the organization’s pivotal role in providing quality education.
Faryal Asif, President of Al-Furqan Organization, shared the institution’s journey from a single room with 16 children and two teachers to a network of 16 branches across Sindh. Of these, 14 are in Karachi, while two are in interior Sindh, collectively educating 3,000 children.
Asif expressed heartfelt gratitude to Anwar Maqsood for supporting the cause and urged continued encouragement for girls’ education, emphasizing its transformative potential.

Community Support and Contributions
Host Zahid Hameed thanked the attendees for their overwhelming support, acknowledging Karachi’s deep interest in education. Various individuals donated generously, contributing crores of rupees and covering the tuition fees for numerous students.
Prominent speakers at the event included Yasmin Hussain, Imran Aslam, Murad Soni, Kamran Habib, and Kashif Chawla. Shields were presented to guests, and students from Al-Furqan Schools added a special touch to the ceremony with their participation.
This event showcased the community’s commitment to empowering underprivileged children through education and fostering hope for a brighter future.
