Dubai: Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s envoy to the United Arab Emirates, delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the North London Collegiate School Dubai Model United Nations (NLCSDMUN) Conference on Sunday.
He was warmly received by Mr. Jonathan Locke, Principal of NLCS Dubai, along with student delegates and faculty members. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to Ms. Fatima Tariq, Director General of NLCSDMUN, for the invitation and lauded the school’s efforts to promote critical thinking, global citizenship, and youth engagement in international diplomacy.
The NLCSDMUN, hosted annually by NLCS Dubai, gathers young delegates to debate global issues through diplomatic negotiation. This year’s theme is “Strengthening International Cooperation for Peace and Security.”
In his keynote speech titled “Pakistan’s Role in Global Diplomacy, Multilateral Cooperation & the Importance of Youth Engagement,” Ambassador Tirmizi stressed the importance of peaceful dialogue in addressing global challenges such as climate change, conflict, poverty, and public health.
“Even the most devastating wars in history ended through negotiation. The world today needs cooperation, not conflict,” he remarked.
Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted Pakistan’s active role in peacekeeping, climate advocacy, and multilateral forums. Citing Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, he encouraged students to take leadership roles in climate action and sustainability.
He also praised the UAE as a model of peaceful coexistence, where over 190 nationalities live in harmony, and called it a successful example of modern multilateralism.
Encouraging students to explore careers in diplomacy, he emphasized their potential to shape global affairs through international institutions and foreign service.
The Ambassador concluded his visit by answering students’ questions on Pakistan’s foreign policy and the role of youth in shaping a better, more peaceful world.
