Karachi: Dow University of Health Sciences has officially joined the global initiative Changing Diabetes in Children (CDIC), aimed at providing comprehensive care to children living with Type 1 diabetes.
The university became a part of this program following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held at its affiliated institution, the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (NIDE).
Under the CDIC program, registered children will be provided with free insulin, glucometers, and glucose test strips. Following the MoU signing, a dedicated clinic under the initiative was formally inaugurated at NIDE.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Abdul Basit on behalf of the Health Promotion Foundation (HPF) and Dr. Ashar Afaq, Registrar of Dow University of Health Sciences.
CDIC is a global project currently active in 18 countries through a collaboration between Novo Nordisk and Roche. In Pakistan, the program has been operational for the past three years and has established 26 centres across the country. With this development, NIDE becomes the 27th centre to join the network.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Mussarat Riaz, Director of NIDE, stated that this partnership reflects a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for children living with Type 1 diabetes in Pakistan.
