Bank Alfalah has achieved a significant milestone in international banking by becoming the first bank in Pakistan to go live with SWIFT’s new cross-border payments initiative, designed to make international money transfers faster, more transparent and more predictable.
The initiative introduces common processing standards and service commitments among participating financial institutions to address longstanding challenges in international payments, including delays, unexpected deductions, limited cost transparency and insufficient transaction visibility.
Bank Alfalah’s initial implementation covers payments originating from Kuwait to beneficiaries in Pakistan, offering customers an enhanced international payments experience through faster transfers, upfront disclosure of fees and exchange rates, full-value delivery and end-to-end payment tracking.
Faster and More Transparent International Transfers
The new initiative aims to improve the international payment experience by introducing greater consistency and transparency across participating financial institutions.
Under the framework, international payments can reach beneficiaries within minutes in many cases, while instant delivery remains possible where supported by local banking systems.

Customers can also access upfront information about transaction fees and exchange rates, helping them understand the cost of transfers before initiating payments.
The initiative further provides end-to-end tracking, allowing customers to monitor their transactions throughout the payment journey, from initiation to receipt.
Full-value delivery also aims to eliminate unexpected deductions that traditionally affect some international transfers.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Remittance Ecosystem
The initiative holds particular significance for Pakistan, where remittance inflows exceeded $41 billion in FY2026, highlighting the importance of reliable and efficient cross-border financial services for individuals, families and businesses.
SWIFT’s initiative has received support from more than 60 banks across 25 countries, marking an important step towards establishing greater consistency and transparency across the global payments ecosystem.
By improving the speed, predictability and visibility of international transfers, the initiative aims to strengthen financial connectivity between countries and enhance customer confidence in cross-border transactions.
