Affleck attended the Care & Cure Institute’s 20th Anniversary Gala on October 28, where the organisation recognised his longstanding philanthropic contributions.
The nonprofit works to address the shortage of medical specialists trained to diagnose and treat epilepsy in children, helping young patients and their families access appropriate care.
Ahead of National Epilepsy Awareness Month in November, Affleck spoke about witnessing people close to him live with the condition and highlighted the importance of timely access to experienced doctors.
“Epilepsy is not abstract to me. I have watched people I care about deal with it, and I have seen how much it matters when a family can get in front of the right doctor quickly,” he said.
Affleck Highlights Importance of Specialist Care
The actor praised physicians who dedicate their careers to treating children with epilepsy and commended the Care & Cure Institute for helping train more specialists.

He thanked the gala attendees for their generosity, noting that the event raised nearly $2 million to support the organisation’s mission.
Affleck also pledged to continue supporting efforts to increase awareness and raise funds for children who need specialised treatment.
Addressing the audience, he reminded attendees that serious illness could affect any family and encouraged them to support children facing medical challenges.
“None of us get to choose whether it is our child or someone else’s child who gets sick,” Affleck said. “But all of us get to choose what we are going to do about the children who do get sick.”
Care & Cure Institute Marks Two Decades of Impact
Affleck highlighted the organisation’s achievements over the past 20 years, noting that doctors trained through its programmes had provided care to more than 350,000 children.
He urged supporters to build on that progress and help ensure that more young patients could access specialist medical services.
The anniversary event also recognised the contributions of Care & Cure Institute co-founders Andrew Gumpert and Mark Borman, whose organisation continues to focus on improving epilepsy treatment and expanding access to qualified specialists.
