The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have submitted a summary to the provincial governor seeking enhanced security challenge allowances for personnel and additional funding to modernise equipment and meet operational requirements.
The proposal recommends allowances equivalent to 120% of basic pay for police personnel serving in southern districts, including the Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Kohat regions, as well as all merged districts.
Under the proposed structure, personnel in other settled districts would receive an allowance equal to 100% of basic pay, while those serving in the Hazara region would be entitled to 75%.
According to the summary, the KP police have been combating terrorism for around three decades. It argues that police salaries remain lower than those of their counterparts in other provinces despite the risks and sacrifices associated with their duties.
The proposed allowances would increase monthly expenditure by more than Rs5.159 billion, according to the document.
Police Seek Release of Procurement Funds
The police have also requested the release of funds allocated for procurement under the fiscal year 2026–27 budget.

The summary seeks more than Rs11.16 billion for procurement in settled districts and over Rs3.35 billion for merged districts.
The requested funds would cover weapons, ammunition, transport, plant and machinery, ordnance stores and other essential equipment required to maintain operational readiness.
The police have stressed that timely funding is necessary to address equipment shortages and support personnel deployed in high-risk areas.
Additional Rs13.871 Billion Sought for Modernisation
Separately, the KP police have requested an additional Rs13.871 billion to purchase weapons, modern equipment and vehicles, citing shortages linked to budgetary constraints.
The proposed purchases include submachine guns, MG-1A3 rifles, 5.56mm weapons, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights and binoculars.
The list also includes anti-drone guns and advanced counter-drone systems, armoured personnel carriers, and single- and double-cabin pickup trucks.
These items are intended to strengthen frontline protection, surveillance capabilities, mobility and the police’s ability to respond to evolving security threats.
Funding Sought to Address Operational Gaps
The summary highlights shortages of weapons, protective equipment, surveillance technology and transport as key challenges facing the force.
The requested allowances and procurement funds are intended to support police personnel working in areas affected by terrorism while improving operational capacity across the province.
The proposals have been submitted for consideration. Their implementation will depend on the relevant approvals and the release of the requested funds.
