KARACHI: World Photography Day was marked at the Karachi Press Club, where speakers highlighted the vital role of photojournalists in documenting events and presenting facts through powerful images.
The Photographers Association of Press Pakistan (PAPP) organised the ceremony. Prominent journalists, photojournalists and members of the media community attended the event.
Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jameeli and Secretary Aslam Khan also attended, along with Chief Guest G.M. Jamali and several senior journalists and photographers.
Speaking at the ceremony, G.M. Jamali described photography as a key pillar of journalism. He said a single image could sometimes communicate a message more effectively than a lengthy news report.
He praised photojournalists for covering accidents, natural disasters, political activities, sports events and other challenging situations. He noted that photographers often put their own safety at risk while performing their professional duties.
PAPP President Muhammad Jameel and Secretary Nauman Nizami said timely and meaningful photographs could increase the impact of news reports. They added that photography had gained even greater importance with the rise of digital and social media platforms.
Fazil Jameeli and Aslam Khan also praised photojournalists for their professional contributions. They said their work helps preserve important moments in history and called for better professional opportunities and support for photographers.

Other speakers described photojournalists as silent witnesses to society. They said their images often become valuable historical records for future generations.
The speakers also encouraged young photographers to adopt modern technology while maintaining professional standards and journalistic ethics.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony to mark World Photography Day. Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to promoting photography and protecting the professional rights of photojournalists.
