Eid Milad-un-Nabi will be observed as a public holiday across Pakistan on Wednesday, August 26, as the federal government has officially notified the day off to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
A notification issued by the Cabinet Division said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved August 26, 2026, as a public holiday on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, corresponding to 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH.
The notification was issued in continuation of the government’s earlier circular dated January 19, which outlined the public and optional holidays for 2026.
Muslims around the world observe Eid Milad-un-Nabi on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee had earlier announced that the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon was not sighted on August 13. Following the announcement, the committee confirmed that 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal would fall on August 26 this year.
The public holiday will allow citizens across the country to participate in religious gatherings, Milad programmes and other activities marking the occasion.
