National Security Strategy was the focus of a book launch ceremony held at Serena Hotel Islamabad, where author Ikram Sehgal introduced his latest volume, “National Security Strategy 2002–2026.”
The book marks the 16th volume of his series “A Personal Chronicle of Pakistan.” The event brought together military officers, diplomats, policymakers, academics, government officials, educationists, and business leaders.
The ceremony featured a review session with a panel of prominent speakers, including Prof. Dr Huma Baqai, Air Marshal (Retd) Masood Akhtar, Gulmina Bilal Ahmad, Dr Salma Malik, Brigadier (Retd) Mujahid Alam, Dr Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq, and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Experts Discuss National Challenges
Prof. Dr Huma Baqai highlighted Ikram Sehgal’s contributions as an author and his views on Pakistan’s transformation. She said the book reflects geopolitical and economic changes while covering issues such as food security, population growth, education, and equality.
Air Marshal (Retd) Masood Akhtar said Pakistan historically lacked a consistently implemented national security framework. He stressed that effective strategy requires coordination between the government, ministries, Cabinet, and National Security Division.
Gulmina Bilal Ahmad said the book goes beyond traditional defence issues. She highlighted its discussion of food security, climate change, taxation, cryptocurrency, education, skills development, and public welfare.
Security Beyond Defence
Dr Salma Malik said national security includes economic stability, education, governance, technology, foreign policy, and social development.
She described Pakistan as a shared national space and said a weak economy can affect defence capabilities. She added that traditional and non-traditional threats require a unified national approach.
Brigadier (Retd) Mujahid Alam highlighted various welfare initiatives linked with Pathfinder Group, including employee support programmes, the Providentia Books Foundation, interfaith harmony projects, and community welfare efforts.
Dr Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq said human security forms a key part of national security. He praised Ikram Sehgal’s work in education, mentorship, and social development through the Providentia Books initiative.
Former PM Calls for Policy Reforms
Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Pakistan needs honest discussions, critical analysis, and practical solutions to address national challenges.
He said improved understanding between political and military leadership is essential for effective policymaking. He added that national security should include economic growth, employment opportunities, rule of law, constitutional governance, and protection of fundamental rights.
Abbasi also paid tribute to those who lost their lives fighting terrorism and highlighted the importance of addressing challenges in regions including Balochistan and Kashmir.
Raheel Sharif Praises Book’s Approach
General (Retd) Raheel Sharif described national security as a complex and multidimensional concept. He appreciated the book’s focus on economic resilience, institutional strength, and practical strategies.
He recalled Ikram Sehgal’s professional journey, including his aviation service, work in the Karakoram Highway region, business leadership, and international engagements.
He said Sehgal’s life journey provides inspiration for younger generations.
Author Shares Vision
In his closing remarks, Ikram Sehgal thanked the participants and reflected on his personal journey, family influences, and national security perspective.
He said his vision focuses on strengthening Pakistan through dedication, faith, and confidence in the people around him.
