More than 600 students participated in ECON FLIMORA 11.0, using short films to simplify business economics and showcase creativity, research and analytical skills.
KARACHI: ECON FLIMORA brought together students, academics and industry professionals at Iqra University Business School (IUBS), where the institution hosted the 11th edition of its annual event to promote economics through visual storytelling and experiential learning.
Held at the Mini Auditorium, EDC, Main Campus, ECON FLIMORA 11.0 – Reimagining Economics Through Visualization was sponsored by Faysal Funds. The programme encouraged students to transform business and economics concepts into short films, combining academic research with creativity, teamwork and communication.
More than 600 students from 14 academic sections participated in the event, producing 24 short films on a range of business economics topics. The films were screened before an audience of over 100 students, faculty members and invited guests, demonstrating innovative ways to explain complex economic concepts through visual narratives.
The event was conceived and led by Dr. Ammar Ahmed Siddiqui, Head of the Department, with co-supervision by lecturer Nargis Noman. The judging panel included senior media and public relations professional Noman Shabbir, Tauseef Shah, Shawn Ivan, Dr. Iffat Mughal and Mirza Naveed Baig.
The judges praised the students for their creativity, analytical thinking and presentation skills, highlighting the importance of communication, problem-solving and confidence in both academic and professional environments.
Addressing the gathering, Noman Shabbir said presenting economic concepts through short films made the subject more engaging and accessible for students. He described the initiative as an immersive learning experience and encouraged other universities to adopt similar teaching methods that combine creativity with academic learning.
Following the evaluation, the Aggregate Demand Group won first place and received a cash prize of PKR 30,000. The Market Power Group secured second place with PKR 20,000, while the Exports Group finished third and received PKR 10,000 for its presentation.
Faculty members said ECON FLIMORA continues to extend learning beyond traditional classrooms by encouraging collaboration, visualization and practical application. They added that the programme reflects Iqra University’s commitment to academic excellence, experiential learning and stronger engagement with industry while preparing students to address real-world challenges through innovation and critical thinking.
