Sindh Assembly Opposition Slams 18 Years of Governance, Alleges Massive Corruption in SPSC, Projects, and Administration

Karachi: Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Ali Khurshidi has launched a strong attack on the provincial government, alleging widespread corruption, governance failures, and institutional decline during a press conference held at the Sindh Assembly.

He said Sindh is an important province of Pakistan but has remained under the control of a single political party for the past 18 years, resulting in severe governance issues. He added that whenever these issues are raised, government spokespersons become uncomfortable and defensive.

Referring to the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), he claimed that its results and functioning are “visible to everyone” and suggested that even the institution’s name may need to be reconsidered. He alleged that postings of assistant commissioners reportedly involve payments ranging from Rs. 30 to 70 million, while the commission itself is accused of corruption.

He further claimed that paper leaks and favoritism have become systemic issues, alleging that individuals connected to influential networks are repeatedly succeeding in competitive exams while ordinary citizens are being left behind. He demanded a forensic audit of SPSC examinations.

The opposition leader also criticized development and infrastructure projects, alleging large-scale corruption in solar energy schemes and misuse of public funds. He remarked that wheat corruption is being denied by ministers, while “billions worth of wheat is allegedly being consumed by rats,” calling it a reflection of mismanagement.

He said citizens in Karachi have been suffering for the past three years due to worsening civic conditions, especially water shortages, claiming that no meaningful increase in water supply has been achieved in 18 years. He also mentioned that expected water supply from Hub Dam has not materialized as promised.

Commenting on governance decisions, he said even provincial leadership had to intervene in the transport department due to poor performance of ministers. He also criticized incomplete infrastructure projects, including the Kashmore-Kandhkot bridge, calling the system dysfunctional.

He further accused Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan of acting as a “B team” of the government while questioning transparency in development claims.

Referring to broader governance concerns, he alleged that corruption is deeply embedded in administrative systems, stating that “nothing moves without bribery.” He also called for accountability in narcotics-related cases, referencing the ongoing investigation into the Anmol “Pinky” drug network, and said such cases indicate involvement of powerful elements.

He added that despite receiving civil awards, the situation in Karachi remains unchanged, and accused authorities of failing to improve law and order or public services.
