Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) commemorated one year of “Markaa-e-Haq” by organizing an academic seminar titled “Information Warfare and Disinformation, Civilian Protection, and International Humanitarian Law” at the university auditorium on Tuesday.

The event brought together academics, students, and distinguished speakers to discuss modern dimensions of conflict, including cyber warfare, media narratives, disinformation, and civilian protection, while paying tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces.

Addressing the seminar, SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujeeb Sahrai praised the professionalism, courage, strategic capability, and preparedness of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. He said Pakistan’s response to last year’s conflict elevated the country’s international standing and demonstrated its defensive capabilities.

He stated that Pakistan remains a peace-loving nation that does not seek conflict but reserves the right to defend itself if aggression is imposed upon it. Dr Sahrai also commended the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed, highlighting improved preparedness and strategic coordination across the armed services.

The vice chancellor emphasized the importance of peaceful dispute resolution under international law and referred to the Kashmir issue, stressing that implementation of United Nations resolutions could have prevented decades of regional instability and economic challenges.

He urged the youth to promote unity, resilience, and commitment toward national development and progress.

Dr Erum Muzafar, Incharge of the Pakistan Study Centre at the University of Karachi, discussed the changing geopolitical landscape of South Asia and the growing role of media warfare and disinformation campaigns. She stressed the need for awareness and resilience in the digital era, particularly in the context of regional tensions.

Meanwhile, Dr Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Business Administration and Commerce at SMIU, said that “Markaa-e-Haq” strengthened national unity and reinforced Pakistan’s image globally. He paid tribute to the Armed Forces for their professionalism and sacrifices.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to guest speakers by the vice chancellor, followed by a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s commitment to peace, international law, and national security.

Earlier, Senior Manager Student Affairs Quratulain Memon delivered the welcome address.

According to university officials, SMIU is observing a week-long series of events related to “Markaa-e-Haq” to highlight the role of Pakistan’s Armed Forces in safeguarding national interests.
