UAE Accuses Iran of Drone and Missile Attack on Fujairah Oil Facility Amid Rising Gulf Tensions

FUJAIRAH: Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have accused Iran of launching a drone and missile attack targeting the strategically important Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, marking a sharp escalation in already heightened tensions across the Gulf region.

According to officials in Fujairah, a fire broke out at the oil facility following what was described as a drone strike. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the site, and civil defence authorities confirmed that the blaze was brought under control without major structural damage.

The UAE Ministry of Defence stated that its air defence systems intercepted three incoming missiles over the country’s territorial waters, while a fourth missile fell into the sea. Authorities said the loud explosions heard across parts of the UAE were the result of air defence systems actively engaging aerial threats, including drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles.

In a strongly worded statement, the UAE condemned what it called “treacherous aggression,” warning that such actions represent a serious threat to national security and regional stability. Officials emphasized that the country reserves the right to respond to any attack in accordance with international law.

Reports indicated that at least three Indian nationals were injured in the incident and were transported to hospital, where their condition was described as moderate.

The incident comes amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route for oil and gas. The United States has recently launched a naval initiative aimed at ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the waterway, further complicating the already volatile situation.

Meanwhile, Iran has denied targeting the UAE directly. Iranian state media, citing a senior military official, said there were no plans to attack the Emirates, even as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that foreign military presence in the Strait of Hormuz would face a firm response.

The developments highlight growing risks to energy infrastructure and maritime security in the region, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global oil supplies and trade routes.
