Karachi: Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, S.M. Mahbubul Alam, emphasized the importance of economic, cultural, and public diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan during his official visit to the Larkana Division from July 17 to 20.

During his visit, the envoy met with leading businesspersons and office bearers of the Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), including the President, Senior Vice President, Vice Presidents, and Secretary. The Deputy High Commissioner also held discussions with the Commissioner of Larkana, prominent journalists at the Larkana Press Club, and representatives of the Arts Council of Pakistan Larkano and the local cultural department.

Expanding Trade and Investment Ties

Highlighting trade and investment opportunities, Alam underscored Bangladesh’s growing export capacity and invited Pakistani importers to explore Bangladeshi products. He extended a warm invitation to Pakistani business delegations to participate in the upcoming ‘3rd Made in Pakistan Exhibition’ in Bangladesh in September 2025, the ‘Leather & Leather Products Exhibition’ in November 2025, and the Dhaka International Trade Fair in January 2026.

The envoy expressed confidence that bilateral trade between the two countries could soon surpass $1 billion, citing Bangladesh’s investor-friendly policies. He also announced plans to organize a Bangladeshi single-country exhibition in Pakistan, aimed at further promoting Bangladeshi products.

Connectivity and Cooperation on the Rise

Alam revealed that direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh are expected to begin soon, boosting trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. He noted that direct shipping between Chittagong Port and Karachi Port is already operational and playing a key role in facilitating bilateral trade.

Focus on Cultural Diplomacy and People-to-People Contact

The Deputy High Commissioner also visited historical sites including the Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Mausoleum and Mohenjo Daro, and engaged with local administrations in Rato Dero and Dokri.

At the Larkana Press Club and the Arts Council of Pakistan Larkano, he emphasized the need to strengthen cultural cooperation, tourism, and scientific and educational exchanges. He invited cultural troupes, media teams, and trade delegations to visit Bangladesh and assured priority visa processing through the Bangladesh Mission in Karachi.

Business leaders, journalists, and cultural representatives in Larkana welcomed the initiatives and expressed interest in sending business delegations to Bangladesh. They also stressed the importance of exploring new areas of bilateral cooperation, especially in exports and imports between the two SAARC nations.
