Tashkent: Culture and art form the backbone of civilization, national identity, and spiritual perfection. These spheres are not only indicators of a country’s progress but also reflect its people’s past, present, and future. In Uzbekistan, cultural reforms have entered a transformative phase, addressing modern demands while preserving the nation’s rich heritage.

President Mirziyoyev’s Call to Action

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has highlighted the role of art, music, and literature in nurturing humanistic values. He stated:
“In these troubled times, it is increasingly difficult to preserve intrinsic and humanistic values. True art, music, and literature, which originate from sacred sources and celebrate the ideals of humanism, must emerge as a life-affirming force, bringing peace and goodness to people, transcending the boundaries of time and space.”

This guiding vision underpins Uzbekistan’s efforts to safeguard national art, educate the younger generation through cultural appreciation, and strengthen cultural values as part of daily life.

Revamping Cultural Education

Education in culture and art is key to professional growth and societal harmony in Uzbekistan. Reforms include:

  • Introducing Modern Teaching Methods: Programs now align with international standards, emphasizing innovation and global practices.
  • Credit-Modular Systems: Modern academic structures are being adopted to improve learning outcomes.
  • Enriching Expertise: Specialists are gaining exposure to international experiences, fostering respect for both national and global cultural achievements.

These initiatives aim to instill a deep understanding of history and art while preparing young people for a culturally enriched future.

Digitalizing and Promoting Cultural Heritage

The preservation of Uzbekistan’s cultural treasures is critical for maintaining its identity and global visibility. Key steps include:

  • Digitalizing Heritage: Modern technology is being used to safeguard artifacts and expand their accessibility.
  • Scientific Research: Efforts to study cultural objects are enhancing their value and recognition.
  • Global Collaboration: International partnerships are promoting Uzbekistan’s culture on a larger stage.

The country’s national art schools and the “Ustoz-Shogird” (Master-Apprentice) tradition are pivotal in merging traditional and contemporary culture while supporting emerging talent.

Culture as a Tool for National Identity

In a globalized world, preserving national identity becomes both a challenge and an opportunity. Uzbek culture, with its distinctive appeal, stands as a powerful tool for showcasing the nation’s uniqueness. While globalization encourages cultural exchange, it also emphasizes the importance of protecting traditional values.

Efforts to harmonize ancestral heritage with modern ideas are essential. Promoting Uzbek culture globally through advanced technologies and strategic partnerships ensures that it remains relevant and celebrated.

A Vision for the Future

Minister of Culture Ozodbek Nazarbekov emphasizes the importance of balancing tradition and modernity. He highlights that preserving ancestral heritage while showcasing Uzbek culture to the world is both a necessity and a noble goal.

Uzbekistan’s cultural reforms reflect a commitment to spiritual growth, respect for national values, and global engagement. These efforts mark a significant step in presenting “New Uzbekistan” to the world while celebrating its rich heritage.
