SMIU Marks 75 Years of Pakistan–China Friendship with Flag Hoisting Ceremony

Vice Chancellor Calls Bilateral Ties “Higher Than Himalayas”

Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) Karachi celebrated 75 years of Pakistan–China diplomatic relations with a flag-hoisting ceremony held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, highlighting decades of strategic cooperation, trust, and development partnership between the two countries.

The national flag was hoisted by Vice Chancellor Mujeeb Sahrai, who described Pakistan–China relations as a “time-tested friendship” rooted in mutual respect and unwavering support.

“Stronger Than Steel” Friendship Highlighted

Addressing faculty, students, and staff, the Vice Chancellor praised China’s consistent support to Pakistan in both challenging and peaceful times.

He described the bilateral bond as “higher than the Himalayas, deeper than the sea, sweeter than honey, and stronger than steel,” emphasizing the emotional and strategic depth of the relationship.

China’s Role in Pakistan’s Development Journey

Dr. Sahrai highlighted China’s contribution to Pakistan’s development across infrastructure, energy, education, technology, and public services, noting its impact from Kashgar to Karachi.

He said the partnership had entered a new phase of cooperation, particularly in science and innovation, with Pakistan preparing to send its first astronaut on a Chinese space mission in 2026.

Call for Youth to Embrace Innovation and Discipline

The Vice Chancellor urged students to learn from China’s development model, stressing discipline, research, innovation, and collective responsibility as key pillars for national progress.

He encouraged young people to play an active role in shaping Pakistan’s future through education and technological advancement.

Ceremony Concludes with Prayers for Stronger Bilateral Ties

The event concluded with prayers for peace, prosperity, and further strengthening of diplomatic, educational, and cultural relations between Pakistan and China.

Faculty members, administrative staff, and students attended the ceremony in large numbers, reflecting strong academic engagement in international relations awareness.
