Karachi: Scott Urbom has officially assumed the position of Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi. This appointment highlights the ongoing strength of the U.S.-Pakistan diplomatic relationship.
Scott Urbom brings extensive experience to his new role. Most recently, he served as Office Director in the Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, managing bilateral relations between the United States and several countries in this region. His previous roles include Deputy Director of the Office of Korean Affairs, Deputy Political Chief at the American Institute in Taiwan, and DPRK Unit Chief in the Office of Korean Affairs. Urbom’s international experience also includes assignments in Beijing, China; Bridgetown, Barbados; and Kyiv, Ukraine.
Before joining the Foreign Service, Urbom contributed to global education as an English teacher with the Peace Corps in Kazakhstan. He holds a degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and master’s degrees from Harvard University and the National War College. Urbom and his wife Sonia, a teacher and retired U.S. diplomat, have two daughters currently in college.
As Scott Urbom begins his tenure as Consul General, he marks the 77th anniversary of U.S.-Pakistan diplomatic relations. His primary focus is on strengthening the strong bilateral ties between the United States and Pakistan. Urbom aims to enhance economic investment, trade cooperation, and the Green Alliance framework. This strategic partnership is intended to benefit both nations and improve people-to-people connections between U.S. citizens and residents of Sindh and Balochistan.
