PTI Raises Concerns Over Bushra Bibi’s Midnight Hospital Transfer, Demands Transparency

ISLAMABAD, May 7, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday expressed serious concern and anger over reports that former first lady Bushra Bibi was “suddenly and secretly” shifted from Adiala Jail to a hospital late at night before being returned to prison shortly afterward.

In a strongly worded statement, the party alleged that the entire matter was surrounded by secrecy, lack of transparency, and possible human rights violations, raising serious questions among the public and party leadership.

Media reports on Wednesday night claimed that Bushra Bibi, currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail, was taken to a hospital under strict security arrangements for a follow-up medical examination related to her eye condition.

Last month, Bushra Bibi reportedly underwent eye surgery at a Rawalpindi hospital after being diagnosed with retinal detachment in her right eye. Prison authorities had earlier stated that doctors recommended immediate surgical treatment.

Questioning the handling of the matter, PTI asked why the public and family members were not informed if her health condition had deteriorated to the point of requiring emergency medical attention during the night.

The party also demanded details regarding the hospital where she was taken, the medical tests conducted, the doctors involved in her examination, and the reasons behind her immediate transfer back to jail.

“The silence of the government and prison authorities is making the entire situation more suspicious,” the statement said.

PTI alleged that Bushra Bibi had been subjected to solitary confinement, mental stress, and “inhumane treatment” over the past several months. The party further claimed that access to her personal physicians had been denied, family meetings restricted, and medical information withheld.

“It is deeply regrettable that a female prisoner, and the wife of a former prime minister, is being deprived of basic medical and human rights,” the statement added.

The party demanded the immediate release of an independent and transparent medical report regarding Bushra Bibi’s health condition. It also called for unrestricted access for her personal doctors and family members and urged authorities to transfer her to Shifa International Hospital for proper treatment and examination by an independent medical board.

PTI warned that if any harm came to Bushra Bibi’s health, the government, prison authorities, and relevant institutions would bear “political, moral, and legal responsibility.”

Separately, PTI leader Omar Ayub strongly criticized jail authorities for allegedly transferring Bushra Bibi to the hospital without informing family members.

He further claimed that PTI founder Imran Khan was also being denied meetings with lawyers, family members, and party colleagues, while facing health concerns of his own.

“Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s eyesight has suddenly deteriorated during incarceration at Adiala Jail,” Ayub alleged, adding that both leaders were healthy prior to imprisonment.

He called for immediate medical treatment for both at Shifa International Hospital and demanded that family members and doctors be granted full access.
