PTA Issues Advisory on SIM Transfer After Death of Registered Users

PTA SIM Transfer Advisory Strengthens Digital Security

The SIM transfer process has been highlighted by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority as an essential step after the death of a registered mobile user. The authority issued a public advisory to ensure proper handling of inactive SIM cards.

The SIM transfer guideline aims to prevent misuse of mobile numbers and protect identity records across the telecom system. PTA stressed that unupdated records can create security risks if numbers remain active after a user’s death.

The authority said families must either transfer or block such SIMs through the official Change of Ownership (COO) process. This ensures legal and verified use of mobile services in Pakistan.

PTA Change of Ownership Process

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority explained that SIM ownership can only be transferred to eligible legal heirs. These include spouses or close blood relatives under official guidelines.

Family members are required to visit mobile operator service centers or authorized franchises. The process must be completed in person for verification.

Required Documents for SIM Transfer

The SIM transfer procedure requires four key documents for verification and approval. These include a Family Registration Certificate (FRC), death certificate, original SIM card, and proof of usage.

These documents help confirm both identity and legal ownership. Operators use them to ensure that the transfer is valid and traceable.

Digital Security and Misuse Prevention

The SIM transfer advisory is part of broader efforts to strengthen digital security in Pakistan. PTA warned that inactive SIMs can be misused if not properly blocked or transferred.

Therefore, timely action is necessary to protect users and maintain system integrity. The authority emphasized responsible handling of telecom records.

Public Guidance and Support Services

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority encouraged citizens to seek help from mobile operators or official PTA platforms.

It also highlighted the availability of digital assistance services for guiding users through the process. This is intended to make the system more accessible and transparent.
