Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday emphasized the vast potential for expanding Pakistan-Russia bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

He expressed these views while addressing a special ceremony in Islamabad celebrating the 35th National Day of the Russian Federation. The event was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and members of the diplomatic corps.

President Zardari lauded Russia as an important global power and a key player in promoting regional peace and stability, especially in the Eurasian region.

Pakistan-Russia Friendship Strengthening

The president congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ambassador Albert Khorev, and the people of Russia on their National Day, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties. “Our relations have improved over the years, based on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared interests,” he said.

He noted that recent high-level interactions between the two countries have laid the groundwork for deeper engagement, adding that Pakistan and Russia continue close cooperation at regional and international forums.

He also mentioned Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi’s recent visit to Moscow, where a productive meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister highlighted the shared commitment to regional peace and cooperation.

“As we celebrate this important occasion, let us reaffirm our resolve to build bridges of understanding and seize future opportunities. Long live Pakistan-Russia friendship,” President Zardari concluded.

Russian Envoy Highlights Cultural and Diplomatic Progress

Earlier, Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev welcomed guests and reaffirmed Russia’s strength and resilience, echoing President Putin’s vision of unity across the region. He pointed to steady progress in Pak-Russia ties across sectors and appreciated Pakistan’s growing interest in Russian language and culture.

“We commend the enthusiasm of Pakistanis for learning the Russian language. The Russian Mission actively supports the expansion of language learning institutions nationwide,” he said.

Ambassador Khorev also reaffirmed Russia’s continued diplomatic and educational support for Pakistan on international platforms.

The event concluded with a performance of traditional Russian folk music by local musicians, celebrating cultural harmony between the two nations.
