Buner: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday visited the flood-affected districts of Swat, Buner, Shangla, and Swabi, assuring that all national resources would be mobilized to accelerate recovery efforts and restore normalcy.

Accompanied by federal ministers and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, the prime minister received a detailed briefing on ongoing rescue and relief operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Both leaders interacted with victims, reaffirming the federal government’s and Pakistan Army’s unwavering commitment to extend maximum support.

PM Shehbaz lauded the dedication of the armed forces and civil administration, while stressing action against illegal encroachments, timber mafia, and mining activities in waterways that worsen flood damage. “Pakistan must act as a hard state where no one is above the law,” he said.

COAS General Munir also praised the troops, police, and civil administration involved in relief work, directing them to spare no effort in assisting affected families.

The prime minister distributed relief cheques among victims, announced seven days of free electricity for flood-affected families, and ordered immediate repair of damaged roads and infrastructure, irrespective of jurisdiction. He also recalled the 2022 floods, when the federal government allocated Rs100 billion to support recovery in Sindh.

Highlighting climate challenges, PM Shehbaz said over 700 lives have been lost nationwide in the current wave of rains and floods, including around 350 deaths in KP alone. He emphasized that deforestation, illegal construction on waterways, and poor planning had intensified the destruction, urging new policies to prevent such practices.

The prime minister stressed that Pakistan is among the world’s 10 most climate-vulnerable countries, calling for urgent collective action. He also praised KP Chief Minister Ali Amin, the armed forces, and civil society for their tireless relief efforts.
