Pakistan–Türkiye Friendship Highlighted in Ankara as Leaders Celebrate Deep Cultural and Historical Ties

A high-profile academic and cultural event titled “Pakistan Türkiye Relations: Cultural Interaction from Khilafat Movement to Present Day” was held in Ankara, jointly organized by the Embassy of Pakistan and Ankara University, underscoring the long-standing historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.

The event brought together parliamentarians, diplomats, academics, students, and members of civil society, all gathered to celebrate the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye.

Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Yousaf Junaid highlighted the deep-rooted brotherly relations between the two countries, emphasizing shared history, cultural affinity, and mutual respect. He noted that the connection dates back centuries, including links to the Mughal era, and pointed out the Turkic origin of Mughal founder Babur.

He also highlighted linguistic and cultural connections between Urdu and Turkish, noting that the word “Urdu” originates from the Turkish word “Ordu” and that both languages share thousands of common words. The ambassador also appreciated the efforts of Ankara University’s Urdu Department in promoting Urdu language and strengthening academic cooperation.

Turkish parliamentarian Mr. Ali Şahin shared personal experiences from his visits to Pakistan, praising the warmth and hospitality of the Pakistani people. He described Pakistan–Türkiye relations as a “sacred bond” with no parallel in global diplomacy.

Another parliamentarian, Mr. Burhan Kayatürk, reflected on his student days in Pakistan and emphasized the consistent solidarity and mutual support between the two countries over the years.

Academics also contributed to the discussion, with Prof. Dr. İrfan Albayrak stressing the importance of academic collaboration in preserving shared heritage. Prof. Dr. Asuman Belen Özcan reaffirmed Ankara University’s commitment to expanding cultural and educational exchange programs.

The event also featured vibrant cultural performances by Pakistani students, including poetry recitations, traditional dances, Qawwali, and cultural exhibitions, which received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.

The program concluded with a collective resolve to further strengthen Pakistan–Türkiye relations across cultural, academic, and people-to-people dimensions.
