Pakistan Defence Industry: Field Marshal Asim Munir Reviews POF Production and Expansion Plans

Military chief visits Pakistan Ordnance Factories in Wah to assess local production, export potential and new plans to strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing.

Pakistan is stepping up efforts to strengthen its defence industry, with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visiting Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) in Wah to review its production capacity, export potential and plans to expand domestic manufacturing.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit focused on POF’s role in strengthening Pakistan’s defence industrial base and expanding the country’s indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

Field Marshal Munir received a detailed briefing on the organisation’s operations and the range of weapons, ammunition and other defence equipment produced locally.

He also observed tests and trials of domestically manufactured arms and ammunition, highlighting Pakistan’s continued focus on developing local technological capabilities and improving the quality and capacity of defence production.

POF is also undergoing organisational changes following the implementation of the Defence Industrial Production and Research Authority Ordinance. During the visit, officials briefed Field Marshal Munir on progress towards the corporatisation of the organisation.

The restructuring aims to improve operational efficiency while strengthening POF’s industrial and commercial capabilities.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is installing two new industrial plants at the Wah-based complex as part of wider plans to increase local manufacturing capacity.

According to ISPR, both facilities are expected to begin production by the end of the year.

The expansion reflects Pakistan’s broader efforts to increase self-reliance in defence manufacturing and strengthen its capacity to develop and produce military equipment domestically.

POF has also focused on innovation, technological advancement and greater use of indigenous capabilities as Pakistan seeks to modernise its defence production sector.

The Wah-based complex is Pakistan’s largest defence industrial facility and plays a central role in supplying weapons and ammunition to the country’s armed forces. Its manufacturing capabilities also contribute to Pakistan’s defence exports.

Field Marshal Munir’s visit highlighted the military leadership’s emphasis on expanding domestic defence production, increasing industrial capacity and advancing technological innovation.

Pakistan continues to pursue a stronger and more self-sufficient defence industrial base through increased local manufacturing, modernisation and investment in indigenous capabilities.
