Nepal Floods and Landslides Death Toll Reaches 1,050 as 4,000 Remain Missing

The Nepal floods and landslides have killed at least 1,050 people, while around 4,000 remain missing, including 583 foreign nationals, according to disaster management authorities.

Rescue teams continue searching remote and severely affected areas as floodwaters, landslides and debris cut off communities. Authorities are using helicopters, heavy machinery and excavators to reach stranded survivors.

Hundreds Trapped at Hydropower Sites

Nepal’s Disaster Management Authority said at least 639 people remain trapped at damaged hydropower stations.

Officials also fear that around 300 workers remain stranded inside tunnels, increasing pressure on rescue teams to reach the affected facilities.

More than 11,000 people have been rescued so far as emergency crews work to restore access to isolated areas.

Millions of Tonnes of Debris

The disaster has also left a vast amount of debris across affected areas.

Preliminary estimates from the United Nations Development Programme put the total at around 2.2 million tonnes. The debris includes building rubble, rocks and large amounts of mud.

The scale of the destruction has complicated rescue and relief operations, particularly in remote communities where roads and other infrastructure have suffered extensive damage.

Rescue and Recovery Efforts Continue

Authorities continue to focus on communities cut off by floodwaters and landslides.

Rescue teams are also prioritising damaged hydropower facilities where officials believe survivors may still be trapped.

Relief agencies and government teams are working alongside heavy-equipment operators to clear debris and reopen access routes as the search for missing people continues.
