LHC Seeks Response on Meesha Shafi’s Rs5 Million Defamation Appeal

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought a response within seven days on singer Meesha Shafi’s miscellaneous application against a trial court decision.

The trial court had ordered Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages in a defamation case involving singer Ali Zafar.

A two-member LHC bench, headed by Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad, heard Shafi’s appeal against the lower court’s decision.

Meesha Shafi Challenges Trial Court Order

In her appeal, Shafi argued that the trial court failed to properly assess the facts and applicable law.

She also maintained that the defamation proceedings did not determine the merits of her sexual harassment allegations against Zafar.

According to Shafi’s plea, the related litigation over those allegations is still pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

She argued that an allegation cannot automatically be considered false simply because it has not been proved.

Shafi has asked the LHC to set aside the trial court’s order requiring her to pay Rs5 million in damages.

LHC Seeks Response Within Seven Days

The high court had earlier suspended the trial court’s decision to the extent of the damages.

During the latest hearing, the bench directed the relevant party to submit a response to Shafi’s miscellaneous application within seven days.

The court will consider the matter after receiving the response.

Dispute Between Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar

The dispute began after Shafi accused Zafar of sexual harassment.

Zafar denied the allegations and later pursued defamation proceedings against Shafi.

The trial court subsequently ordered Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages.

Shafi challenged that decision before the Lahore High Court.

The matter remains under judicial consideration. The trial court’s ruling is therefore not the final outcome of the ongoing appellate proceedings.
